Community Catchment for Membership

Our members are drawn from throughout the Blackwood, Adelaide Hills and coastal areas and can bring to notice the varying community needs throughout the district.

Involvement in Community

The Blackwood Masonic Lodge is situated in the heart of the Blackwood business district and while members hail from a wide area, those locals are generally available to assist in the Hills community, by providing manpower to help run community events.

Charity Involvement

Charity is at the heart of Freemasonry and has been since time immemorial, although once was hidden and quietly achieved, these days of greater enlightenment mean that our benevolence is more widely known and promoted.

Statewide

In SA alone, many millions of dollars are donated to worthy charities every year. At the state level, the Freemasons Foundation has been established to formally manage benevolent activities of SA Freemasons.
Additionally the Freemasons Foundation "Centre for Mens’ Health" was established as a joint venture between the University of Adelaide and the Freemasons Foundation for the advancement of research into mens health in this state.

Locally

There are several donations to local charities each year by Blackwood Lodge by cash or in kind, such as defibrillators being made available to local Blackwood premises, and it is expected that in the near future at least one cash donation will become a 'significant’ donation. If you know of a worthy organisation which might benefit in this way, applications can be made to the Secretary (see Contact us) in March of each year.

The Future

In a recent analysis, Blackwood Lodge members identified 'Community' as both a threat and an opportunity and also as both a weakness and a strength. This positions 'Community' at the fore front of our thinking, from a corporate or association perspective.
There is the threat of misinformation or lack of information about who we are and what we do; and the opportunity to set that right.
There is the weakness of our current limited offering to the community and the strength of our ability to enhance it.

Social

The Blackwood Lodge is looking at instigating a monthly or quarterly social event for past and present members of both the community and the craft with a view to rekindling old friendships and discussing community involvement.

Membership Committee

The membership committee through its engagement and community group is charged with the responsibility of addressing this situation.
Under discussion are:-

  • Discover potential to engage with community events
  • Identify, foster planning, promotion and presentation of joint community events
  • Publish a calendar of local and state events which Freemasonry can support.
  • Develop a community engagement planInvite and involve local dignitaries in our own and joint events

If you are a community minded fellow of good standing, you might be able to participate in our movement forward by becoming a Freemason at Blackwood Lodge.
